The Young and the Restless

The Real Problem With Lucy’s Fan-Girling Faith On Young and the Restless

We sympathize with Lucy on The Young and the Restless, we really do. The poor kid was taken away from her home and her dad and moved to Portugal with her mom. Then they joined her dad in Genoa City, but her parents said they were splitting up. Lucy schemed to get them back together. And they did.

Now they’re all living in Genoa City…in a bit of a holding pattern. While Heather and Daniel try to figure out who they want to be when they grow up, Lucy is stuck with no friends and seemingly no life. We understand why she’d leap on the chance to hang out with a cool, older girl, Faith. But is something sinister brewing?

Social Emotional Learning

The first time Lucy (Lily Brooks O’Briant) met Faith (Reylynn Caster — who marked a big moment), she asked her about being kidnapped and having a bomb strapped to her chest. That’s…not a normal human interaction.

Since then, she’s been hanging around, wanting to be buddies with Faith. We get that she’s lonely and that college-aged Faith impresses high schooler Lucy. But she’s being a little pushy and missing the signs that maybe she isn’t wanted, which could be a problem.

Bad Blood

If Lucy were a normal girl from a normal family, we’d only feel a little second-hand embarrassment for her, but we’d understand. She’s a kid. Kids do awkward stuff. But Lucy is not a normal kid from a normal family. And we don’t mean her parents. They’re just kind of annoying and entitled.

We mean her grandmothers—both her grandmothers. There’s Phyllis (Michelle Stafford — who won the Daytime Emmy this year), Daniel’s mom. She’s nuts. She should be in jail, but she isn’t. And she’s the saner one. Lucy’s other grandmother is Sheila (Kimberlin Brown), mother of Lucy’s biological mom, Daisy. Sheila is nuts, and she’s been to jail. Now she’s returned from the dead on The Bold and the Beautiful and possibly committing more crimes.

Genetics Test

If Lucy inherited either grandmother’s obsessive tendencies, not to mention their psychotic personalities and habit of going after what she wants by destroying anyone who stands in her way, then if Faith ever does anything Lucy interprets as a rejection, things won’t be pretty. The last time Faith was home, a psychopath killed her cat. How long before she starts thinking of those as the good old days?
